Business communication was the theme of this month’s Continuous Professional Development seminar which focused on developing the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to communicate effectively in business.

Speaker at the seminar Dr Richard Jenkins, Manager of the Harmony Language Center, Kuala Lumpur and author of the books The Eight Major Topics of English and Understanding of English Phonemics, described the importance of Business Communication in today’s world particularly as it relates to the use of English Language and how an entrepreneur’s task is proven successful to the extent to which he/she is able to develop a highly skilled and effective business communication.

The seminar which was held at the conference room of the exotic Café Barbera, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, had in attendance OXCELL members and non-members from different works of life who wished to enhance their capacity and capability in today’s business world.

The seminar reiterated that English language was the official business language and international language of the world stating that approximately 375 million people speak English as their first language, a total of 1.5 billion speak some form of English, more than half of the business meetings conducted on the European continent are conducted in English language and over Eighty percent of the information stored in the world’s computers is written in English.

Dr Jenkins implored the participants to perfect their fluency in English as he deemed it imperative in ensuring swift and easy communication when conducting business. The seminar enabled the participants gain insights into the official business language to perform self- analysis and identify strengths and weakness as regards English language fluency.

At the end of the seminar the participants were dazzled with Café Barbera’s exceptional 3 course western cuisine that comprised fruit punch and pumpkin soup for desert, grilled chicken thigh served with sautéed asparagus for main and coffee panna cotta with sardine puffs for dessert. What a way to end a power-packed seminar, right?!
