
OXCEL Awards Ceremony 2008

In a glittering awards ceremony, Mej (Dr) Faiz Khaleed (Malaysian Astronaut) and Steve Suriajaya (Award Winning Composer & Musician from Sydney Australia) were awarded the prestigious OXCEL Awards at the Theatrette of the Palace of The Golden Horses on the 13 of December 2008.
Mej (Dr) Faiz received the Young Professional Award. To receive this Award Mej (Dr) Faiz had to demonstrate his dedication and contribution towards the initiation of Malaysia’s space program. He is one of only two Malaysians who have successfully completed cosmonaut training to perform orbital flight at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Moscow, Russia which enables him to be called a Malaysian Astronaut. His dedication and professionalism as a Dentist and now as a spokesperson for the ANGKASA programme is inspiring the spirit of the younger generation to realize that anything can be achieved.
Steve Suriajaya received the Young Achiever Award for he has proved himself to be a great young achiever for being one of the most talented and successful musician from Indonesia who is currently practicing in Sydney, Australia. As a thinking musician who can turn the hand to almost any musical equipment, he had successfully performed in various musical events and was a part of Australian Institute of Music, Sydney.
The event was followed by a 9-bird release of at the Bonsai Garden which symbolises the 9 OXCEL Leadership Qualities (Ethics, Integrity, Influencing, Ceremony, Leading Change, Handling Cultural Diversity, Leading and Developing Others, Developing Capability and Capacity & Making Sense of Complexity and Ambiguity)
This was the followed by a Networking Luncheon which was held at the Grand Salon Lobby Lounge of the Palace of The Golden Horses. With over 200 guests OXCEL Members and Invited Guests networked while being entertained by self-composed piano compositions by Award Winner Steve Suriajaya and Dato’ Ghazali who sang jazz numbers with the OXCEL Resident Band.
