The World Heritage & Tourism Conference 2009 which had over 100 participants from 15 different Nationalities was held at the UNESCO World Heritage City of Melaka from the 23 - 24 February 2009.

The event was Officiated by the Melaka State Tourism, Culture and Heritage Executive Councillor YB Datuk Seet Har who represented YAB Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam the Chief Minister of Malacca.

A Press Conference was held shortly after the officiation ceremony and it is of note that the World Heritage & Tourism Conference 2009 was featured is Newspapers and National TV.

The event encompassed Paper Presentations from 5 highly respected individuals with regards to the development of theme of the conference “Creating Successful & Sustainable Heritage Tourism”
The topic/ speakers were:-
Collaborating between Private-Government-NGO – Haji Azizan Noordin
Sustainable Heritage Tourism: Creating A Sustainable Economy – YB Senator Datuk Akbar Ali
Make Sites and Programs Come Alive – En. A Najib Ariffin
Focus on Quality and Authenticity: A Case Study On Success Implementations – Michel Gagne
Preserve and Protect – Arthur Gillette

At the end of the Day 1, participants were treated to a Welcome Dinner at the Official Residence of the Chief Minister of Melaka/ WAY President. The ceremony was Officiated on behalf of the Chief Ministed by the Melaka State Housing, Small Town Development and Project Rehabilitation Executive Councilor Datuk Abdul Ghafar Atan.

Day 2 of the conference saw participants taking a tour of Melaka and using it as a case study for their presentations later in the day.

The entire programme was capped off with a Achievement Muhibbah Dinner hosted by Tourism Malaysia held at the Renaissance Melaka Hotel. This event was graced by His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil Bin Yaakob the Governor of Melaka. The menu of the Dinner was in-line with Melaka’s Heritage as it blended Nyonya, Malay, Chinese and Indian food into a tantalisingly tasty experience.

The Dinner saw The Oxford Centre for Leadership awarding OXCEL Achievement Medals to 3 outstanding individuals Mr Shaukani Abbas, Mr A Najib Ariffin, and Mr Arthur Gillette for their exemplary contribution to society.

The Dinner ended with the VVIP’s of the night the Honourable Dato’ Ghazali Bin Datuk Yusoff and His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil Bin Yaakob regaling the crowd with International and Malaysian songs for the participants to let their hair down after a long 2-day conference.
